Our hours do vary, and if you are ever unsure, you can call. Generally, we are open most weekends, Saturday and Sunday, from Noon to 5pm. We are also open during the Portsmouth’s First Friday Art Walks. Our hours for every weekend are listed here. But do understand that the needs of our portraiture clients can cause us to alter these hours. If you are in Portsmouth, just take a peek at our sign. If it says we are opening back up in a short bit, why not take a quick walkabout Portsmouth? Get a libation upstairs at Book and Bar! Hungry? Portsmouth is a premier dining location - and Five Thai Bistro is located in our building! Either way, swing back around, and we will likely reopen soon.

The Dog Art Gallery is located at 40 Pleasant Street, Lower Level, Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Our gallery is in the basement of the Customs House. This historic edifice is the only enormous four-story granite building in town - we are hard to miss! You will find the building at the corner of Pleasant and State Street.If you are local to Portsmouth, you might better understand our location as underneath Book and Bar!You enter our gallery using the outdoor gate/path adjacent to Book and Bar's outdoor patio. It happens. If you are standing at Pleasant and State Streets, and you are facing the giant gray granite building (the Customs House), look for the wrought iron fence. See that awesome curved gate? We are there! Just walk down the short cobblestone path and step down one flight of stairs - we are underneath the Customs House! Note that you CANNOT reach our gallery by entering the main doors of the Custom House (near Five Thai). You can only enter through our outside staircase that goes DOWN. If you took any steps UP - you aren't in the right place

The Dog Art Gallery features the work of Kimberly Buccheri and Bud Thorpe who specialize in the art of dog, pets, and their families. While our medium is typically photography, we also paint. All the works you will see in the gallery are duplicates of client commissioned work. There are 40 works on display over 2500 square feet of gallery space.

While it is true that Portsmouth is an amazing New England city to walk around, most of us arrive by car.  The best public parking is at the Hanover Street Parking Garage (34 Hanover Street, but we recommend entering the lot from High Street for the best access).  Street parking is always an option if a bit tricky to find.  Most public parking is about $2 per hour, but the downtown street parking cost goes up sharply after two hours - which is why we recommend that garage.  If you want the absolute closest parking to The Dog Art Gallery, the M&T Bank parking lot, located at 325 State Street has a pay kiosk.  All private lots in Portsmouth are more expensive than public spaces, so take note!

Our gallery is a display space for examples of the works clients commission from us. It is not for sale. If you would like to commission us to create art of your pet, or your family, please inquire. If your pet has passed, we can also create artwork from images you already have in the form of a painting, again, just ask.

Yes, you certainly can bring your well-behaved pet to the Dog Art Gallery! We encourage you to do so! Because others will be present in the gallery when you visit, we ask you to keep your pet on a leash and under positive control for their safety and the safety of those around you. Note that Portsmouth is an EXTREMELY pet-friendly city, and many shops allow pets. We do hold gala gallery night openings - typically by invitation - and during those limited events, we ask you to leave your pets safely at home because of the number of people present in the gallery. If you are ever in doubt if a visit to our gallery is right for your pet, please give us a call and we can see what is best in your situation. As always assistance dogs are always welcome.

Really only two: please do not touch the artwork, and please don't bring in open food containers of any type (i.e. finish your ice cream and THEN come in and visit!)

We typically set such appointments outside of open gallery hours so you can get our full attention, so we may learn about you and your pet family, and how we might best work together to create lasting artwork for your home, vacation home, or office.
